CapRock Communications Offers Asset-tracking Service

WIRELESS NEWS-October 4, 2008-CapRock Communications Offers Asset- tracking Service (C)2008 10Meters - http://www.10meters.com

CapRock Communications announced the launch of AssetTrax, its new map-based tracking service that monitors the position and movement of critical assets around the world.
As a provider of satellite communications to remote and harsh environments, AssetTrax is the latest value-added solution clients can integrate seamlessly into their operations using CapRock's Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) services.

AssetTrax is ideal for rig managers and fleet operators needing the capability to view real-time locations and historical paths of critical assets, such as drilling rigs and maritime vessels, including supply boats, tankers, cargo ships and construction and repair vessels.

"Customers told us that they wanted to walk into the lobby of their office and see a plasma screen with dots all over the world representing the locations of their global drilling rigs," said CapRock Vice President of Global Engineering Ron Long. "With AssetTrax, clients can view this information 24/7 from any desktop with an Internet connection, giving them instant access regardless of where they are located."

On a site-by-site basis, users are able to view each site's latitude and longitude coordinates, heading data and date and time of the last-recorded position. This data is captured to provide the historical movement and path for every site within the last 30 days.

"We manage a fleet of 27 diving and construction assets in the Gulf of Mexico," said Cal Dive Vice President of Diving Allan Palmer. "AssetTrax allows us to quickly identify the closest asset for response to urgent situations, such as a pipeline leak or marine emergency. AssetTrax was invaluable during Hurricane Ike when we were disbursing our fleet to safe harbors across the Gulf."

The new service has been deployed to multiple clients, many of which are using the service to track their complete fleets.

"AssetTrax was developed working alongside our energy and maritime customers," Long said. "Our goal was to develop a simple, reliable service that would give customers a virtual 'global eye' of their operations across the globe. Now, CapRock customers have those omniscient capabilities with AssetTrax."
